Dear Global Friends
We want to share what we’re seeing on the ground and the best ways you can support our local efforts.
We know many of you have been watching the Russian military atrocities being committed against Ukrainian civilians. Bordering Ukraine, we can clearly see the horror that is taking place there. A rough, cruel war in which hundreds of civilians, including children, have already been killed, with more dying each day. We know some of you have already found ways to support Ukrainian families. Thank you!
In the last two weeks in Poland we have been overwhelmed with arriving mothers and children (over 1 million so far with estimate much more to come).
The Polish government is allowing refugees to work legally and access public healthcare. It plans to fund food and temporary lodgings but it’s definitely to slow and will not be able to managed the snowballing demand. This is why regular people have stepped in—providing all the resources arriving families need.
Two weeks ago we suspended our lives and regular jobs to ferry people from the border with Ukraine, to arrange housing, shop for supplies and gather donations. Most of us have squeezed together in our own apartments to shelter arriving families – people who we have never met before.
Our colleagues, friends and almost everyone we know have arranged help—people are doing this full time and spending their savings to buy food, supplies and pay for transport. We’re exhausted and have run out of options to house people, but of course none of this compares with what these families are going through. Many arriving Ukrainians have no option but to camp at railway stations or sports halls.
Just two weeks ago, these people were living their full, normal lives…
Please consider helping in any of these ways:
1) Donation to our Fundacja Archipelag
www.fundacja-archipelag.com located in Krakow where all our personal effort focused on. We take care mainly of children who have been left without their parents, but do support all refugees once the needs appear – arranging accommodation, transportation, food and supplies. In cooperation with so many fantastic people across Europe we help to organise Ukrainian refugees the new life in various countries. We will match donations up to € 2,000.
